Portland, OR based Shadowgraphs are back with another surging psychedelic gem in their brand new single, ‘Before The Time.’
An atmospheric, rhythmically driven progression and punctuated bassline give cadence to drifting vocals, resonating echoes and the philosophical exploration of making difficult choices.
Singer and guitarist Charles Glade had this to say about the track:
“Before the Time was actually one of the first songs that Bryan and I had worked on. I had this 3/4 style key part and Bryan had a great vocal melody to go along with. We both loved this repetitious jam, but couldn’t get past the verse, so we just let it simmer.
Last fall, after 2 years of letting it simmer, Bryan was out in Portland visiting while I was on some whiskey kick back in his studio. The rest of the song sorta clicked with the “James Bond style” intro, guitar, a bassline, and chorus vocals. For me the song became “that James Bond one”, but when Bryan got back and heard it, he elaborated more on one of the lyrics I had on the Chorus, “Before the Time”.
For Bryan this song became more about a hard personal life decision that he had to make, stitching the chorus and verse lyrics together smoothly, start to finish. Then after the move in December, Bryan recorded his vocals to the song alone out in Portland playing around with a space echo for some really unique delay textures (that we ended up chopping up and rearranging later on).”
Following up their debut album, ‘Venomous Blossoms,’ the group has recently finished recording their second full length album ‘Another Time,’ releasing Nov. 30 via Golden Brown.
